OVER THE RIVER AND THROUGH THE WOODS
MARCH 20-22, 2015

Written by Joe DiPietro
Directed by Mil Cox

Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. In fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he's been offered a dream job. The job he's been waiting for—marketing executive—would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family's love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely—and single—Caitlin O'Hare as bait…we won't give the ending away here.

Nick is a single, Italian-American guy from New Jersey. His parents retired and moved to Florida. That doesn't mean his family isn't still in Jersey. If fact, he sees both sets of his grandparents every Sunday for dinner. This is routine until he has to tell them that he has been offered a dream job. The job he’s been waiting for-marketing executive-would take him away from his beloved, but annoying, grandparents. He tells them. The news doesn't sit so well. Thus begins a series of schemes to keep Nick around. How could he betray his family’s love to move to Seattle, for a job, wonder his grandparents? Well, Frank, Aida, Nunzio and Emma do their level best to keep Nick in Hoboken, and that includes bringing to dinner the lovely and single Caitlin O’Hare as bait.

“Over the River and Through the Woods” is an off-Broadway hit about four Italian American seniors who struggle to accept that their remaining grandson has his own dreams that apparently don’t include them. This is touching and hilarious play that examines the nature of love, relationships, and the importance of family.

Director Mil Cox will be casting 3 men and 3 women to fill the following roles (male (M) or female (F)):

Nick Cristano (M)- a young man in his thirties
Frank Gianelli (M)- Nick’s maternal grandfather, eighty years old
Aida Gianelli (F)- Nick’s maternal grandmother, in her seventies
Nunzio Cristano (M)- Nick’s paternal grandfather, in his seventies
Emma Cristano (F)- Nick’s paternal grandmother, in her seventies
Caitlin O’Hare (F)- an attractive and charming young lady in her late twenties

Don’t let your age be a deterrent to auditioning for this play. Makeup is a wonderful thing for both young and old. We can make the young look “old” and the old look “young”.

Over the River and Through the Woods, written by and produced by special arrangement with Samuel French Inc., will take the stage March 20-22, 2015 and will mark the first production of Season 8. This production is not a musical; no prior acting experience is necessary.

Audition packets for the production are available at the Washington County Public Library (1444 Jackson Ave-Chipley).
